WIP Wednesday: Changing jobs, and visitors

The last couple weeks have been a little crazy. I am changing positions at work, from a retail position to a more technical position. The change is allowing me to switch from working evenings, and leaving GeoDad home with kiddos 3 evenings a week to working day shifts and putting the kids into childcare a couple days a week. There has been some paper work to do for the dayhome, and my Mom came down to hang out over the weekend. At the end of this week my Dad is around visiting from overseas. I also signed up for a gym membership in the last couple weeks. Now to fit going to the gym into my life again. Needless to say, not alot of sewing has been done.

I have been working away on the Bento Box quilt for my friends. Here are a few more photos of the small blocks. I only have 3-4 more colours to sew together before I can start laying out this fun project.

Now to head to bed so I can be rested for the next visitor. Thanks for stopping by for a read.

WIP: Bento Box and 'Not Your Grandma's Garden'

Some friends asked me to make a quilt for them. We decided on pattern and picked fabric a couple weeks ago. So after feeling frustrated with the Farmer's Wife Blocks last week I decided it was time to work on something a whole lot faster to put together.  So I got to starching, pressing, and cutting the fabric for the Bento Box Quilt by Tracy Brookshier. My friends chose lots of different colours and one dark dark blue batik as the contrast colour for all the blocks. It is so nice to be strip piecing and using large pieces. Here are the first 3 colours that I worked with.
I am so pleased with how well the green/blue stripe worked out. It is a Kaffe Fassett shot cotton and with plenty of starch it was wonderful to sew with. It is so nice to have the stripes lining up and not going crazy angles.

It is also time for a mid-month update and link up with Splish Splash Stash for the In Hand EPP Linky Party. Here is where 'Not Your Grandma's Garden Quilt' has got to over the last month:

6 rows complete, 2 more flowers added

I also have the March block for the Hexie BOM completed:

I am off to play outside with the kids now that it is starting to feel and look like spring.

WIP Thursday - Because Wednesday Disappeared

I had one of those weeks where today is already Thursday and my long list of things I wanted to get done is not even really started. Sunday was going to be a fantastic sewing day, but with the weather outside hovering around -22 Celsius before the windchill was calculated my unfinished basement was not warm to be sew in. I went for big Sunday afternoon nap instead. The rest of the week I have had trouble concentrating as we have been discussing me changing positions at work.

Any way, I got a few Farmer's Wife Blocks done and made my March Block of the Month for the Hexie Blog's Block of the Month. To see all the Farmer's Wife Blocks I have made so far, check out the new tab at the top of my blog.

Block 58 - Mother's Dream
Block 97 - Waste Not
Block 59 - Night and Day

Block 33 - Farmer's Puzzle

The batiks I used for the Hexie BOM are leftovers from my appliqué animals curtains that I made for Monkey just before she was born.
